Judy Ripley is a lifelong Alaskan, born in Douglas in 1937. She and her husband Rudy Ripley owned and operated Commercial Art in Juneau for more than 30 years, raised three daughters and enjoyed their cabin on the Taku River as well as boating, fishing, hunting, and exploring Southeast Alaska. Currently living in Wrangell, Alaska, Judy has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Compliments to the Bear: Adventures of an Alaska Prohibition Agent (2014) follows the rough and tumble life of Warren S. Harding, a pro-hi agent who pursued bootleggers and rumrunners in the vast, sparsely populated Territory of Alaska in the 1920s. From Ketchikan to Nome, Harding travels by boat, car, sternwheeler, rail, horseback, on foot and by snowshoe to try and stop, in vain, the flow of illegal liquor. The nonfiction book is based on Harding’s diary.
Judy will read from her book, sign books and have several books available for sale.
